Abstract

Purpose: This study is to assess the relationship between job stress and health promoting behaviors among nurses working in intensive care unit.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted between 2 March and 27 April 2011. A total of 195 nurses completed study. Information was obtained on demographic characteristics, job stress, and health promoting behaviors. Univariate analyses were done to describe study variables.
Results: Job stress significantly differed according to musculoskeletal symptoms, while health promoting behaviors significantly differed according to subject¡¯s age, working duration, marital status and musculoskeletal symptoms. Job stress was negatively associated with health promoting behaviors.
Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that nursing intervention programs reducing nurses¡¯ job stress can lead to increased health promoting behaviors.
